Presently I coach 2009s (U14) group and 2008s (U15)

Each roster is ~18 players

Attendance can be as low as 8 occasionally

With these ages, the training methodology is largely tactical periodization based, meaning each practice is focused on a game model concept and the activities develop some number of related physical attributes, technical skills and tactical concepts.

Example: if the topic is center backs dribbling out of the defensive third to destabilize the opponent's defensive balance, then I might do a session like:

Unopposed dribbling at mannequins before releasing a diagonal ball to waiting players on the opposite side

2v2+1 positional games designed to get players to dribble and release

6v6 small sided games in a 3 zone field with rules designed to get the players to dribble into the next zone or release as they get close

8v6 or 10v8 phase of play working on isolating a center back on the ball who can dribble forward out of the 18 yard box on a goal kick or transition to attack

Curriculum Topic(s) of the Session (I focus on 1 topic per session)

Number of player range the session's activities work for

Age range session is appropriate for

Level of skill the session is appropriate for

Session Length

Session's activities ideally build from unopposed/individual focus to semi-opposed / fully-opposed small group focus to fully opposed larger team focus.

Example:

Unopposed passing pattern (1 or more instances side by side)

Rondo / Positional Game (1 or more instances side by side)

Small Sided Game (1 or more instances side by side)

Functional Practice / Phase of Play

On the computer I'm reviewing the video, taking notes and saving sessions of interest. On the mobile device I'm verifying my understanding while I set up or execute the session's activities.

Session ideally has a summary screen/pdf of just the activities' diagrams or links to each of the activity's diagrams at the beginning for easy reference before containing the details of each activity in video / pdf format.

Y.

The voice overs combined with when you freeze frame and use various arrows shapes to depict the sequence, help to make the activity clear and set you apart from most competitive alternatives.

Also, I prefer quality over quantity. Imagine you are a technical director of an academy and we are your coaching staff. You would likely provide just the activities you believe best get the intended outcomes out of the time spent based on the learning goals for a given age and level.

I think maintaining a high quality library of curriculum topics, session plans and individual activities that are easily discoverable and used in sequence is more valuable.

So far I haven't used playlists very much but I do prepare for sessions by saving sets of activities as favorites. When I'm on the field I don't usually review the videos and instead refer to the diagrams in the resource pdfs if I can't remember something. I would benefit from a way to save 3-4 exercise diagrams into a quick-look session plan more than I'd use a custom playlist.

It would be helpful to share views on how best to structure routines for 10 vs. 14 vs. 17 years old, that might be helpful and what we want to get out of each from a development perspective is.

Hi Everyone,

I'm looking for ideas on training use of zone 14 and the half spaces.

There are several concepts I'd like to focus on regarding getting the ball into Zone 14. First, developing play into Zone 14 when progressing from the middle third as opposed to playing into the wings. Second, cutting the ball back towards the penalty spot or the top of Zone 14 when it is wide and high near the end line rather than crossing or shooting.

I'd also like to work on concepts related to what to do once the ball is in Zone 14. First, I'd like to work on recognizing cues to make forward runs into the the 18 yard box at different angles behind defenders as they step into Zone 14 to pressure along with how to pass forward from zone 14 to find runners. Second, I'd like to work on how cues and technique for longer shots from Zone 14.

Regarding half spaces, I'd like to work on movement, positioning, and combination patterns for the 7 and 11 in which they occupy the half space as they near the opponent's goal rather than staying wide - specifically looking at inverted winger scenarios. Finally, I'd like to work on cues, positioning, and passing options for central midfielders to occupy the half spaces behind a narrowing front 3 with overlapping fullbacks.

Theme 01, Attacking Centrally, seems related but I'm wondering what suggestions you have. Thank you.

Can you please add a practice PDF for this one? Thank you.
