Scott Wade yes doesn't have to be cemented in stone we play this exact formation persee. However, it does give you structure in and out possession and allows you to develop game situations that players may encounter in games that they can more easily apply in games. e.g. May be easier to create 2 v 1s in wide zones in a 343 against a 442 and so we ca set up these situations in game based practices or isolated exercises that can help them develop this understanding.

This is key Scott, great points. I think the transition between the standard 1-1-2-1 to 1-2-3-1 to 1-3-4-1 will be really helpful for coaches and players moving from 7 to 9 to 11. There are many others that can be developed with GK playing a more pivotal role in say the 1211 to 1321 to the 1433. Lots of variations and great discussion.
